Install the mounting brackets. The brackets may not be necessary for the particular model of air conditioner and, if so, will not be included. Follow the instructions regarding the mounting hardware as it may vary. Use a screwdriver to secure the mounting hardware in place in the window. Use a level to ensure and adjust as needed.
Place the air conditioning unit into the window. Open the window wider than necessary for ease. Have someone help you lift and put the unit in place. Close the window as much as possible to hold the unit in place once mounted. Do not place the unit past the mounting bracket or built-in frame.
Slide out the accordion side panels to close off the remaining window opening. Use a screw and screwdriver to secure the side panels in place, preventing any leaks where the cool air can easily escape.
Install the included angle brackets in the upper sash of the window. This prevents the window from randomly opening and potentially allowing the unit to fall out of place. Use a screwdriver to install the brackets.
Insert a foam strip in the gap where the upper and lower sashes overlap. The gap and overlap is created because the window is technically open -- the foam strip helps to prevent the cool air escaping through this opening.
Plug the unit into an electrical outlet to begin use.
