Whirlpool Through-Wall Window Unit Installation

As warmer weather approaches, the need to maintain a cool indoor temperature becomes a priority, and can be accomplished through the use of a high-powered Whirlpool window-unit air conditioner. Installation of the Whirlpool air conditioner requires preparing your window for the appliance to ensure warm air is kept outside and cool, conditioned air does not escape from the window's opening. Although the appliance installation can be accomplished by one person, it is recommended to have help to safely install the air conditioner and prepare the window.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the top channel piece on top of the air conditioner, and secure it to the appliance by inserting the 3/8-inch screws into the top channel's holes. The top channel is a piece of plastic that ensures the air conditioner is secured to the window.

    • 2

Slide the appliance's side curtains into the tracks located on the left and right side of the air conditioner.

    • 3

Lift the window and remove the plastic covering from the foam seal. Attach the foam seal to the upper window's bottom.

    • 4

Insert the air conditioner into the open window and balance it on the window pane to ensure it is securely resting in the window.

    • 5

Extend the right curtain on the air conditioner and pull it out to cover the window opening. Insert the drill bit into the drill, and drill a small hole in the window sash to create a hole for securing the curtain.

    • 6

Insert the curtain screw into the curtain's hole, and slowly drill the screw into the hole to secure the curtain. Repeat the hole creation for the left curtain and drill the screw into the left curtain's hole to secure the curtain to the window sash.

    • 7

Pull the window down to lock the air conditioner in place, and set the level on top of the air conditioner to ensure it is balanced.

    • 8

Plug the air conditioner's power cord into the nearby power outlet to power on the appliance. Insert the remaining foam seal between the upper and lower windows to block warm air from entering your home.
