Install the adjustable side covers and secure them with the supplied screws. If you do not secure the covers with the screws, you will experience additional vibration and you will not get a tight seal between the covers and the sides of your window frame. This will allow additional bugs, heat and moisture into the room. The side covers and screws are provided with the unit.
Install the self-sticking vapor barrier seal onto the top of the air conditioner. The vapor barrier prevents moisture from seeping into the room between the bottom of the window glass and the top of the air conditioner. It also helps to minimize the amount of vibration. The vapor seal is provided with the unit.
Secure a garden hose to the hose port located on the back of the air conditioner and then route the hose away from the foundation. The air conditioner will produce a lot of water while turned on. This water filters out of the air conditioner and down the outside wall or down to the foundation of the home. A hose allows you to route the water away from the foundation.
Position the air conditioner so the air conditioner tilts downward from front to back. This forces water to the outside and not to the inside. This prevents water from spilling through the vent grille and into the room. It also helps to prevent the coils from freezing.
Support the back of the air conditioner with a pedestal to prevent the window from supporting all of the weight. You can make your own pedestals out of wood or purchase pre-manufactured pedestals.
Plug the air conditioner into an outlet that has three prongs. Do not cut the round grounding plug off of the conditioner. If necessary, replace the outlet with a compliant outlet before using the unit. Failure to do so could cause damage to the air conditioner can create a risk of fire within the home.
