How to Replace an Amana Drip Pan

Air conditioners, including Amana units, typically employ two drip pans to catch moisture that drips from the coils during the cooling process. When a drip pan becomes decayed from use or becomes infested with mold, the best option is to just replace it rather than attempt to rehabilitate it. Normally, Amana, as well as other manufacturers, weld the primary drip pan to the coils. However, the other drip pan can easily be replaced.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase an Amana replacement drip pan. Contact the company by phone at 877-254-4729 or visit the company's website.

    • 2

Turn the Amana air unit off on the control panel and by switching off the dedicated breaker on your home's main electrical panel. This added safety feature is to prevent someone from powering the unit on as you replace the drip pan.

    • 3

Unfasten the coil hatch cover using a wrench and/or pliers. Pull the coil hatch cover off the unit and set aside.

    • 4

Look under the coils to find the old drip pan. Do not pull the drip pan directly out; instead, loosen and then disconnect the drain line with pliers and/or wrench. Allow the line to drain before proceeding.

    • 5

Attempt to pull the old Amana drip pan out from below the coils. If there is resistance, it may be fastened to the Amana unit. Locate any retaining screws or bolts and remove them with a wrench or screwdriver.

    • 6

Slide the new Amana drip pan into place. Fasten it to the unit, if applicable. Put the coil hatch cover back onto the air conditioning unit and switch the appliance's dedicated breaker back on, then turn the unit on at the control panel.
