How to Remove the Grill of an Emerson Window Air Conditioner

The front grill on an Emerson Window Air Conditioner funnels room air into the unit through a series of slits where the air passes over the reuseable filter. Although newer Emerson window units feature a slot at the top of the air conditioner for extracting the filter, you must remove the grill on older models to access the filter for cleaning. This simple process takes only a few seconds, as the grill snaps on and off.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the air conditioner by dialing the control knob to the "Off" position or pressing the "Off" button on the front panel of some electronic models.

    • 2

Press down gently on the top lip of the grill with one hand while pushing up with your other hand against the bottom lip of the grill. Flex the plastic grill slightly to disengage from the notches on the front of the unit.

    • 3

Tilt the top of the grill toward you and lift to remove the grill from the air conditioner. The filter behind the grill snaps out with gentle pressure on the left and right sides.
