How to Clean Mini Splits

Keep more cash in your pocket by routinely cleaning your mini-split air conditioning unit. This air conditioning system uses interior and exterior units attached in a specific room rather than a central unit that cools the entire home. Keeping your mini-split unit clean helps it perform more efficiently and last longer. Cleaning it is a user-friendly process that requires only the time involved to allow the filter to fully dry.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the power supply leading to your mini-split unit.

    • 2

Find the intake grill and lift it up from the bottom.

    • 3

Remove the plasma filter and soak it in water and detergent. Choose a detergent with low alkaline. Don't scrub the filter; swish it around or let it soak in a bucket to clean it. Rinse thoroughly and allow it to dry overnight before returning it to the mini split.

    • 4

Vacuum the mini split using the hose attachment on your vacuum.

    • 5

Wipe down the mini split with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly.

    • 6

Remove any debris that has collected around the exterior unit of your mini split. Sweep the unit down with a broom to remove any dirt.
