How to Troubleshoot a Kenmore Digital Air Conditioner

Kenmore is a home appliance brand owned by Sears department stores; its badge is applied to a range of digital-control air conditioners. Troubleshooting any one of the company's cooling products involves checking a list of common faults or setup errors. This approach helps you fix your air conditioner at home without calling a Kenmore technician. Unnecessary call-outs can be costly if your do not have a valid warranty or home insurance policy.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the power cord into a working electrical outlet; you might have unplugged it during the winter and forgotten to reconnect the power supply. Switch the outlet on, if possible in your home. Plug a lamp into the outlet; check the fuse or breaker if the lamp doesn't light. The air conditioner needs a special "time delay" fuse to work correctly.

    • 2

Push the "Reset" button on the power cord, if one is fitted. Some air conditioners come with their own fuse that must be reset in the event of a power surge or electrical fault. Alternatively, switch the unit off and wait three minutes. Switch the appliance back on; it should work as normal.

    • 3

Tap the "Temp" button; the temperature setting could be too high, resulting in a lower level of cooling. Turn up the fans using the "Fan Speed" button for a stronger flow of air from the air conditioner. Check the batteries in the remote control if the buttons seem to have no effect. The air conditioner won't work properly below 70 degrees Fahrenheit (21 Celsius.)

    • 4

Pull the front grille forward and remove the air filter; brush any dust into the garbage and wash with warm water. Let the filter dry before putting it back in the air conditioner. The appliance sucks up dust from the air as it cools, trapping it in the filter screen. The filter should be cleaned every two weeks.

Remove any blockages in front of the air conditioner that could be restricting air flow. Chairs, sofas, heavy curtains and other common household objects have the potential to damage the air conditioner if left in front of the grille. You will notice a drop-off in cooling if the grille is blocked.
