Ensure that the temperature in your home is not actually colder that the temperature to which you have set the thermostat. If it is, your air conditioner, if it is a relatively modern model, will simply cut out. It is easy to mistake this for a fault with your unit.
Inspect the ventilation grill on one side of the Tempstar's compressor for anything that might be blocking the flow of air to the unit. Any loose debris should be removed to allow the unit to work under normal conditions.
Remove the screws holding the grill onto the front of the unit, remove the grill, and wipe the inside of the grill with a damp cloth, in case dust or dirt has built up and is making the unit stop working or overheat.
Use a bristle brush to wipe clean the cooling coils inside the compressor while the grill is removed. Once all dirt and contaminants have been wiped clear, dry the coils with a cloth.
Re-attach the front grill and restart the air conditioning unit, having cleared the debris, cleaned the grill and coils, and checked the room temperature.
