How to Seal an A/C Case

If you had a bag filled with diamonds and the bag had a hole in it, you would quickly retrieve any fallen diamonds and repair the bag so as not to lose any more. Cool air may not be as expensive as a precious gemstone, but a drafty air conditioner unit will cost you in decreased comfort and higher electricity bills. It is also important to seal your A/C case to prevent unwanted pests such as cockroaches from entering your home.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the edges around the A/C case. Brush away loose dirt with a duster, then remove any grime with some soapy water and a sponge.

    • 2

Dry the area with a clean rag.

    • 3

Load the caulk gun. Pull the metal holder of the caulk gun away from the base and place the silicone caulk bottle into it. Squeeze the trigger to draw the metal holder up against the bottom of the caulk bottle.

    • 4

Snip off the tip of the caulk bottle at an angle using scissors.

    • 5

Apply a 1/4-inch layer of silicone caulk around the edges of the air conditioner case and walls. Run a wet fingertip along the caulk for a nice finish.

    • 6

Let the caulk dry for 12 hours. Silicone caulk is waterproof and prevents moisture from eroding the seal. Your A/C case is sealed.
