How to Connect a Kenmore Air Conditioning Unit to a Window

During the summer months, an air conditioning unit can provide comfort and relief from the scorching days. Kenmore air conditioning units are like most other brands of air conditioning units when it comes to installation. These units are placed in an open window of the home or apartment and attached easily to the window sill. There is usually no need for additional support for the unit, since they are made to fit almost any window.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the sliding panels into the slots along the left and right sides of the air conditioner.

    • 2

Use the Phillips screwdriver to secure the sliding panels with the screws provided with the air conditioning unit. There are four spots along both the left and right sides of the unit where the screws need to be fastened.

    • 3

Use a utility knife to cut the adhesive-backed seal to the length of the window. Open the window, and attach the adhesive side to the underside of the bottom window.

    • 4

Use a tape measure to determine the width of the window and make a mark with a pencil at the center of the sill.

    • 5

Attach the L-bracket on the center line to the outer sill using the screws provided and a Phillips screwdriver. The short side of the L-bracket should be facing toward the outside. The L-bracket will help support the unit in the window.

    • 6

Place the air conditioning unit in the window, lining up the base of the unit with the sill. The bottom of the unit should fit into the L-bracket that was just attached.

    • 7

Close the window frame up to the upper guide of the unit, and extend the side curtains of the sliding panels so that they block the rest of the window. Use the screws provided and the Phillips screwdriver to secure the sliding panels in place. Screw holes can be found on the top and bottom at the ends of both sliding panels.

Cut the sash seal to the length of the window using the utility knife. Push the sash seal down between the two panes of glass to prevent air and insects from coming into the room. The sash seal can be secured with screws that are included with the air conditioning unit. You may not be able to reach this spot on some windows, so this step is optional.
