Goldstar Portable Air Conditioner Installation

GoldStar appliances manufactures dehumidifiers, microwaves and portable or window air conditioner units. These air conditioners can be considered portable because they are not a permanent fixture and may be moved from one room in a home and reinstalled in another. GoldStar portable air conditioners are designed to cool small spaces, such as a bedroom, not an entire residential structure. Installation of these appliances is very simple and only requires a few materials.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Unpack your GoldStar air conditioner from the box and set it near the window where it will be installed. The window should have a three-pronged or grounded electrical outlet nearby to prevent overloading the circuit.

    • 2

Slide the air conditioner accordion panel onto the unit, if so equipped. This is a plastic, accordion-like panel that fills the gaps between the sides of the unit and the window frame.

    • 3

Open the window and lift your GoldStar air condition up, resting it on the window sill. Slide the air conditioner into the window and balance it momentarily. This will help you to determine whether you need to place wood shims under the unit to better steady it and make it tilt slightly outward for proper condensation drainage. If so, pull the unit out and put the shims in the proper location to balance the unit.

    • 4

Put the GoldStar air conditioner back into the window and lower the top pane down against the unit. It should be steady but tilt a little bit toward the exterior, allowing condensation to drain outside.

    • 5

Tape the gaps between the air conditioner and the window frame using clear vinyl tape. This will help to prevent cold air from seeping outside and keep insects out of the room.

    • 6

Plug the GoldStar air conditioner into the electrical outlet and turn the control knobs to the desired setting.
