Wall Unit AC Problems

Air conditioner (AC) wall units are inserted into the wall, much like a window unit, and regulate the temperature within the room. After the unit is installed properly and powered, you might experience issues such as sudden power loss or warm air.
  1. Unit Doesn't Function

    • If the unit fails to turn on when the "On/Off" button is pressed on the AC unit, there might be a problem with the power source. Unplug the unit, wait a few seconds and plug it back in. Press in the "Reset" button on the plug, wait three minutes and then press the "On/Off" button. If the unit still fails to receive power, open the breaker box that houses the breaker responsible for the AC. Inspect the state of the breaker switch. If the breaker has been tripped and the switch is in the middle or "Off" position, flip back to "On" and try to turn the AC unit on.

    Remote Control Failure

    • If the remote control fails to activate the AC unit or adjust the settings, the batteries might need to be replaced or may be inserted incorrectly. Slide open the remote control battery cover on the back of the remote control, remove the batteries and reinsert them according to the polarity instructions on the inside of the chamber. Slide the battery cover back on. If the remote control still fails, remove the old batteries and reinsert new ones.

    Warm Air Emitted

    • If the air conditioner blows warm air or no air at all, there might be significant blockage on the filter. A blocked filter might cause the unit to fail completely, if not cleaned properly. Insert your fingers into the grille tab on the unit and pull the grille open. Remove the filter from its spot behind the grille. Use warm water or a vacuum cleaner to remove dirt and debris that's collected on the filter until it's completely clear. Dab the filter with a towel on both sides to dry it, if water was used, or lay the filter out to dry. Reinsert the filter back into the unit and close the grille.

    Cold Air Stops

    • If cool air stops blowing but the unit continues to run, the AC might have leveled out temperature-wise with the room, causing the internal air compressor to turn off. Wait a few minutes and the compressor will turn back on, or lower the temperature on the front panel of the unit or on the remote control.
