How to Fix a Noisy Samsung Window AC

If you have a noisy Samsung air conditioner, the noise is likely due to vibration between the air conditioner and the window in which it rests. It could also be between the air conditioner and the filter housing. Correcting the issue is relatively easy. In fact, Samsung supplies you with the necessary padding to correct the issue. Unfortunately, the padding is often overlooked and never installed.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the Samsung air conditioner from its electrical outlet and remove it from the window. You may need a screwdriver for this task.

    • 2

Measure the width of the window opening with a tape measure, then cut two pieces of sticky-back foam insulation with sharp scissors.

    • 3

Remove the paper from the back of the insulation and place the first strip on the bottom edge of the sliding window pane. Place the second piece along the edge of the window frame, where the air conditioner rests.

    • 4

Place the air conditioner back into the window, then close the windowpane tight over the air conditioner.

    • 5

Cut two 1-inch-long pieces of the sticky-back foam insulation with your scissors, then cut half the foam off. Keep the piece of foam with the sticky back.

    • 6

Open the lid to the filter housing and place the pieces of foam in the upper corners, inside the lid. Close the lid. The foam will create a barrier between the plastic lid and the plastic housing for the filter.

    • 7

Measure the distance between the bottom of your air conditioner and the ground outside. Select an air conditioner support brace of appropriate size and place it between the air conditioner and the ground. The air conditioner support braces the back of the air conditioner and helps to minimize vibration. If the air conditioner is on the second floor or higher, you must forgo this step.
