How to Mount an A/C Brace

When installing a window-mounted air conditioner, it is a good idea to mount a brace to the unit on the outside of the window. Most of the weight of the air conditioner will be outside the window, and using a brace will help ensure that the air conditioner doesn't go anywhere. There are a lot of different styles of braces on the market, but the concept of mounting them is all the same. They include a platform that the air conditioner sits on and brackets that hold the platform in place.

Attach the brackets to the platform by inserting the screws that came with the brace through the screw holes in the bracket and screwing them directly into the platform using your power drill and Phillips head bit. The way the brackets attach to the platform will vary depending on the style of braces you are using, but there will be two brackets that will attach to the left and right side of the bottom of the platform.

Place the platform and the brackets against the wall under the window where the air conditioner is located. Place a bubble level on the platform and move the platform up or down until the platform is level. With the platform level, make marks on the wall with a pencil where the screw holes on the bracket touch the wall.

Attach the bottom of the brackets to the wall by lining up the bracket screw holes with the marks on the wall. Insert the screws that came with the brace, and screw them directly into the wall using your power drill with a Phillips head bit.
