Directions for GE Floor Unit Air Conditioners

A GE floor air conditioner is a portable unit that you can move from room to room, if you desire, to regulate the temperature of the air in whatever room you're in. Rather than straddling a windowsill, half in the room and half outside, a portable air conditioner has an exhaust hose that you attach to an open window. It plugs into a regular power outlet. Some GE portable units come with a remote control, which control most functions of the unit, save the "Dry" function, which must be activated by hand on the actual unit. After you acquire your new GE air conditioner, you might have questions about how to use it.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the GE floor unit onto a steady flat surface, preferably on the floor, and plug it into a power outlet. Install the supplied batteries into the supplied remote control, if the unit comes with one.

    • 2

Press the "On/Off" button on the air conditioner's front control panel or remote control to turn the air conditioner on. The electronic display lights up, showing the current thermostat setting.

    • 3

Press the "Mode" button on the front panel or remote control repeatedly, until the "Cool" indicator light illuminates on the front panel. This setting starts the internal cooling element of the GE floor unit and allows cool air to emit from the outgoing vents.

    • 4

Press the "Fan" button on the front panel or remote control repeatedly, until you reach the desired fan speed. Select "High" for a fast fan speed, "Medium" for a semi-quick fan speed or "Low" for a low fan speed.

    • 5

Press the up or down directional buttons on the front panel of the remote control to raise or lower the thermostat setting, respectively. The thermostat appears on the display as it changes. Raise the temperature to a high setting to allow warmer air into the room. Lower the temperature to cool the room. The internal compressor turns on to cool the room, until the room temperature is the same as the thermostat setting.

    • 6

Press the "Mode" button repeatedly on the front panel, until you reach "Dry" mode to activate the "Dry" function or internal dehumidifier. The "Dry" indicator light on the front panel illuminates. The "Dry" function removes excess moisture from the air. The moisture is then accumulated and fed into the drain pan or evaporated and expelled out of the exhaust hose, if one is attached.

    • 7

Press the "Mode" button repeatedly, until you switch from "Cool" to "Fan" mode. "Fan" mode allows the GE unit to circulate the air within the room without using the cooling element.

    • 8

Press the "Timer On" button on the front panel or the remote control to activate the timer feature of the GE. Press the up or down directional buttons to adjust the timer up or down in half-hour increments from 30 minutes to 24 hours from the current time. At the selected time, the air conditioner shuts off automatically. Press the "Timer On" button again activate the timer after it's set.
