My Delonghi PAC A85 Portable Air Conditioner Leaks

The Delonghi PAC A85 air conditioner is a portable unit, designed for road trips or to be moved within the home to cool different rooms. This unit sits on the floor on its four casters, instead of half in the room and half outside on top of the windowsill. The Delonghi features an exhaust hose that connects to the back of the unit and mounts to a window. A built-in handle sits on the top of the unit for easy transportation. Once the unit is set up, you might experience leakage issues. The Delonghi can leak for a number of reasons, such as a nonsecure drain cap, a damaged exhaust hose, lack of drainage or an unstable base.

Instructions

    • 1

Inspect the PAC A85 exhaust hose for damage, such as holes, tears or cracks. If any such weakness has occurred to the hose, evaporated moisture, taken from the air during the "Dry" cycle, might leak through any opening along the exhaust hose. If you find hose damage, replace it. Inspect the point at which the hose connects to the PAC A85 and confirm that the connection is secure. Disconnect the hose from the air conditioner and reattach it to confirm a secure seal. Examine the installation of the exhaust hose to the window and confirm that there are no leaks.

    • 2

Unplug the unit and carry it to a drainage area, such as the lawn or a bathtub, if water leaks from the bottom of the PAC A85. Unscrew the drain cap from the lower back of the unit and allow the liquid within the drainpipe to drain completely. During the "Dry" or dehumidifying cycle, water accumulates within the drainpipe if the exhaust hose isn't connected. If the drainpipe isn't drained after it fills, the unit might leak or shut down as a safety measure.

    • 3

Unscrew the drainpipe cap from the drainpipe, if the unit is running after being drained and leaks from the drainpipe. The drain cap might not have been screwed on properly. Inspect the drain cap for grime or blockage, such as grime, dirt or other debris. If the cap is dirty, clean it with a mild soap and water. Do not use abrasive cleaners on the cap. Align the grooves of the cap with the threads on the drainpipe and screw the cap firmly back on.

Remove the PAC A85 from any unsteady surfaces and place the unit on a flat, secure surface, such as the floor. Confirm that all four casters are level and not hanging off the surface edge. If the unit sits lopsidedly on top of a surface, the unit might leak from the drain pan. Avoid setting the unit on top of uneven surfaces, such as a bed or a blanket, as a safety measure as well as to avoid leakage.
