Horizontal Window Air Conditioner Installation

A window unit air conditioner is designed to fit into a horizontal sliding window, provided the window is wide enough to accommodate the unit. Before you purchase a window unit, open the window and measure the width and height of the space between the windowsill and sash. The unit should fit in the area easily with adequate room for installation. The size of the unit you purchase should also reflect the size of the room you wish to cool.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert a screwdriver into the screws, which hold the AC case to the unit, on the front or sides of the unit. Unscrew the screws, slide the unit from the case and set the unit aside.

    • 2

Place the top rail on the top front portion of the case, align the holes on the rail with the holes on the case, slide the screws through the bottom of the case into the holes and screw them into the rail.

    • 3

Slide the accordion-like side panels onto the side of the case. Confirm that the left panel is fitted to the left side of the case and the right panel to the right side. Fit the accordion panel arms into the bottom and top rails and slide them in. If necessary, slip the supplied screws into the inside of the case and screw them into the accordion panels.

    • 4

Measure the bottom of the window sash, and cut a piece of weather seal the same length. Peel the backing off the weather seal, and press it to the bottom of the sash. Measure the windowsill, and cut a piece of weather seal the same length. Peel the backing off the seal, and press it to the windowsill.

    • 5

Insert the case into the open window in the exact spot you want to install the unit. Lower the open window down into or just behind the top rail of the case.

    • 6

Insert a supplied V support bracket underneath each side of the bottom of the hollow case. Confirm that the V-brackets are near the outside wall and rest on the outer sill. Screw the supplied V-bracket bolts through the case and into the brackets.

    • 7

Extend the accordion panels to the leftmost and rightmost points of the window frame. Drill starter holes through the holes of the panels into the window frame, and screw the supplied screws through the panels into the window frame.

    • 8

Place two supplied L-brackets on top of the open window and against the window frame. Drill starter holes through the holes of the brackets into the window frame. Screw the supplied screws into the brackets to secure them to the window frame. These brackets prevent the window from being raised.

    • 9

Measure the top of the open window, and cut a strip of weather seal the same length. Insert the weather seal in the space between the open window and the stationary window to prevent air from escaping.

    • 10

Insert the air conditioner into the case and replace the screws on the front or sides of the unit to secure the case to the unit.
