Mini Split AC Installation

Basic home air conditioning units are installed through windows, placing the cold air blower on the inside, and the compressor and heat exhaust on the outside. A draw back of these type of units is the inability to use the window the air conditioner is installed in. Split air conditioners circumvent this drawback because the blower is separate from the mechanical heat-producing parts of the system. The two parts of the air condition are connected by wires through a wall.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the location to install the split AC unit. This includes the wall space for the indoor unit and a mounting ground space for the outdoor unit. Measure the refrigerant lineset included with the AC to determine how much distance there can be between the blower (indoor unit) and compressor (outdoor unit).

    • 2

Hold the AC wall bracket against the wall and put the marker in the bracket screw holes to mark where you must drill.

    • 3

Drill directly into the dots made with the marker using a drill bit as specified in the AC manual. Next, screw the bracket to the wall using included screws.

    • 4

Look at the rear of the indoor unit to determine which side the wiring extrudes from. Pick the same side to drill a hole through the wall to the outside to make space for the AC wiring. For example, if the wires extrude from the right of the indoor unit, then drill a whole to the right of the bracket.

    • 5

Drill the wire hole in the appropriate location near the wall bracket. Use the largest drill bit in your toolkit. Drill small holes directly near one another until there is a big enough space to fit all of the AC lines and tubes.

    • 6

Hold the indoor unit near the bracket and feed the wiring and tubing into the hole to the outside. Mount the indoor unit on the wall bracket as instructed in your AC manual.

    • 7

Move to the outside of the home and connect the wiring and tubing to the outdoor unit. Connect the wires and tubing to the appropriate ports on the outdoor unit. Match up the ports on the outdoor unit to the plugs on the end of the wires and tubing.
