If air is unable to enter the intake grille, then the unit is unable to blow air from the unit. A dirty air filter prevents the flow of air from the room into the unit. A central air conditioning system features air filters, which can either be replaced or reused. You can open the intake grille and remove the air filter from its slot and replace it with a new one. Before insertion of a new filter, you should confirm that the air filter is inserted the correct way. Reusable filters can be rinsed with water or cleaned with a vacuum cleaner. Before reinsertion of the reusable air filter, confirm that it’s dry.
The accumulation of ice around the cooling components in the outside unit could mean the blockage of cold air into the home. Ice can build for a number of reasons. The most prominent causes include a broken condenser fan or cold outside air. If the outside air is colder than the air conditioner thermostat’s lowest setting, operation of the air conditioner should be avoided. Should the air conditioner system freeze, you can shut if off and allow it to thaw, or run the heater component of the unit to help thaw the system.
It’s possible that the condenser fan was mounted backwards during the installation of the central air conditioner unit. If the fan is mounted backwards, it fails to pull air into the unit and fails to cool the house. You can remove the necessary AC panels to get to the fan compartment. The first thing you can check on the fan motor is a fan reversal switch. If a switch exists, flip it and test the fan. If the fan’s direction changes with the flipped switch, then the problem is fixed. If no switch exists, you can dismount the fan, turn it around and remount it onto the fan motor.
The fan might be blocked from blowing if the ball bearings are grimy or an obstruction, such as debris on the sides of the fan housing, prevents it from turning. While looking inside of the fan compartment, swing the fan around at least a full turn. The fan should rotate freely. Should the fan strike the side of the fan housing, the fan is installed incorrectly and should be removed and reinstalled. The ball bearings might cause stifled fan movement and should be lubricated with motor oil.
