Duo-Therm Air Conditioner Installation

A recreational vehicle (RV) requires air conditioning just as a standard house or apartment does, especially in hot climates and during hot summer months. The installation of a Duo-Therm air conditioner (AC) into an RV requires a 14-inch-square opening in the RV ceiling, the connection of two parts to each other and the proper electrical wiring.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert a screwdriver into the screws of the roof vent inside the camper and unscrew them. Remove the vent and stow it away. Clear any caulk from around the opening and apply weather sealant to any holes or seams surrounding the opening.

    • 2

Set the air conditioner unit on top of the roof with the flat part facing down and the tapered end facing the front of the RV. Confirm that the gasket fits into the opening. Avoid sliding the unit along the roof as the gasket on the bottom of the AC is likely to get damaged.

    • 3

Insert the upper part of the duct system component into the bottom of the blower discharge, which is located on the bottom of the rooftop air conditioner component. Insert the supplied screws into the holes of the upper duct and screw them into the holes of the blower discharge.

    • 4

Reach up into the air conditioner unit and pull the power cord and other wiring down into the RV cabin.

    • 5

Align the lower duct template with the upper duct component and insert the lower duct template over the upper duct component, so that the template is flush to the ceiling and in alignment with the rooftop air conditioner component. Bolt the lower duct template to the rooftop air conditioner component with the supplied screws and a screwdriver.

Insert the supply line into the opening of the junction box on the lower duct template. Confirm that all wires are stripped at least a half inch. Twist the white wire in the junction box and the white or neutral wire from the supply line together. Twist the black wire from the junction box and the black or hot wire from the supply line together. Insert the supply line ground wire into the ground screw inside the junction box and tighten the screw with the screwdriver. Install the junction box cover over the junction box and screw two screws into it to hold it in place. Plug the power cord into the power outlet on the control box.

Insert your fingers into the air grille finger catches on the air box and pull the air grille off. Raise the air box up to the template and insert screws into the air box mounting points. Some of these mounting points are inside the air grille compartment. Reinsert the air grille into its compartment and press in until it snaps into place.
