Your Frigidaire air conditioner has an anti-microbial filter that removes harmful bacteria from the air. Inspect this once a month to ensure that it is not clogged. Dirt and dust can accumulate on the filter over time, causing the cooling coils to develop frost. In addition, dirty filters can block normal air flow, which reduces your air conditioner’s efficiency. Wash or vacuum the filter. To wash it, use warm water and dish soap and then rinse thoroughly with clean water. Allow the filter to dry before returning it to your air conditioner.
Cleaning your air conditioner’s cabinet keeps the unit looking new and prevents buildup of dust and dirt that can find their way inside the unit. Use dish soap and water to go over the cabinet. Do not use harsh cleaners such as those containing bleach, wax or polish.
Condenser and evaporator coils can collect dirt over time. Although your filter is there to keep the evaporator coil from becoming too dirty, it will gather some dirt, particularly if it's in a dusty location, or there are trees nearby. Dirty coils reduce airflow and lose their ability to absorb heat. Check the coils yearly and clean if necessary. To keep the coils as clean as possible, keep potential sources of debris away from them. Don't install a window unit near a dryer vent, and trim foliage so that the unit has at least 2 feet of clearance. This will also help to ensure that the unit has adequate airflow.
The drains in your Frigidaire air conditioner can become plugged as debris and mold and mildew get inside. A clogged drain channel interferes with the unit's ability to reduce the humidity in your home. Run a stiff wire or a pipe cleaner through the air conditioner’s drains periodically to keep them clear and free of mildew.
During winter, when you're not using your air conditioner, you can leave your unit in the window or store it. If you leave it in the window, inspect the seal around the air conditioner and make sure it's tight. Cover the portion of the unit that is exposed. If you're storing the air conditioner, clean the filters and coils thoroughly, and cover with plastic. Return it to the original carton if possible.
