How to Wire a Tradewinds Cooler

Cooling homes and offices keeps workers more comfortable and thus enhances production. There are numerous types of systems in use to provide the cooling. Among these different types of systems, the most cost effective is an evaporative cooler. The cooling of the air occurs by the evaporation of water. The duct system of the building directs the flow of cool air to keep a comfortable workspace. You can install Tradewinds evaporative coolers without the aid of an electrician or air conditioning company. To set up the cooler for operation requires you to perform the electrical connections in the junction box for the water pump and the air blower.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the junction box on the front of the blower housing. The internal wiring of the unit is performed by the factory before shipment. Inside the junction box is a three-prong outlet for the connection of the pump and a four-prong outlet for the blower motor.

    • 2

Plug the water pump cord into the three-prong receptacle.

    • 3

Locate the blower motor. Find the cover plate over the electrical terminals.

    • 4

Attach the power wires to the terminals by loosening the terminal screws slightly, inserting the wire and then tightening the screws back down. Four wires require attachment: black, white, red and green. The terminals are spaced around the center of the motor.

    • 5

Attach the green wire to the grounding screw. The other three wires are attached to the terminals in the order red, white and black beginning at the grounding screw. Each screw has a color dot of the wire that you need to attach.

    • 6

Plug the blower cord into the four-prong receptacle of the junction box.

    • 7

Attach the four wires contained in the electric conduit to the house power lines.
