Is There a Reset on a Bryant Air Conditioner?

Bryant air conditioners provide central air conditioning to your home. The unit uses a thermostat to regulate the temperature and provide the right amount of air conditioning during the summer months. If the unit suddenly stops working, it may need to be reset. You can do some basic troubleshooting at the same time you reset it.
  1. No Reset Button

    • Bryant air conditioners don't have a button you can press to reset the unit. However, it is possible to reset the air conditioner by disconnecting it from the power and reconnecting it. The method by which you reset the Bryant air conditioner depends on the type of air conditioner you have, but the basic procedure involves disconnecting the electricity from the unit.

    Circuit Breaker Method

    • If you are using a split unit -- a Bryant product that contains several related units such as the air conditioner, dehumidifier and gas furnace -- the easiest way to reset the unit is to turn the power off at the circuit breaker, and turn it back on. Open your circuit breaker and find the circuit your Bryant unit is on. This circuit may be marked on the breaker; if not, you must use trial and error to determine which circuit it is. Flip the circuit to "Off," wait 30 seconds and flip it back on. When the power comes back on, your unit should reset.

    Downward Heater

    • Bryant air conditioner and downward heater models are easier to reset. You can reset these without turning off the circuit breaker. Unplug the unit and wait three minutes before plugging it back in. Once you plug it in, you have to turn it back on and set it to the temperature you want before it will begin cooling your room again. It usually takes the machine about 15 minutes to cool an area after it's been reset.

    Considerations

    • If your unit stops cooling the room, it may need to be reset. After you unplug it or turn off the power to it, check all filters and replace any dirty or damaged filters. Check that your air vents aren't blocked. Move any furniture that is covering vents away from the vents. After taking these troubleshooting steps, reset the machine. If it still doesn't work, call a service technician.
