How to Detach an AC Main Pan

The main drip pan in your home air conditioning unit is a flat pan that catches condensation as the unit operates. This pan is located on the bottom of the air conditioner and has a drain line connected to it that disposes of excess water. If you've noticed leaking on your air conditioning unit, it could be the result of a bad pan. You can remove the current pan in order to replace it with a new one.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the main breaker panel in your home and flip the switch that controls the AC circuit to the "Off" position.

    • 2

Locate the access panel on the front of the AC unit. This panel covers the internal coils. It will likely be located on the bottom of the unit.

    • 3

Remove the access panel to expose the drip pan, located under the coils. There will be a drain pipe connected to the pan.
