How to Design a Chest

Designing a homemade treasure box for your child will take less than an hour to complete. Children enjoy hiding their special trinkets and treasures away. Homemade treasure chests are also ideal decorations at themed birthday parties.

Things You'll Need

  • Hinged wooden box
  • Craft paint with metallic finish
  • Foam brush
  • Decorative scrapbook paper
  • Removable glue dots
  • Mod Podge
  • Decorative pendant and charms
  • Tacky glue
  • Adhesive-back felt

Instructions

      Use foam brush to dab craft paint onto the wooden box. Completely cover the box with paint. Allow to dry.

      Cut shapes and different designs out of the scapbooking paper. Use temporary glue dots to lay out the design before permanently adhering to the box.

      Attach paper cut outs to the box, using a foam brush to apply Mod Podge.

      Attach pendant and ornamental charms to the box with glue.

    • 5

      Attach a piece of adhesive-back felt to the bottom of the chest.
