How to Reupholster a One-Ring Bar Stool

You can inexpensively customize your decor by reupholstering old one-ring bar stools. Upholstery fabric will be the most durable, but you may have more pattern or color options if you choose a lighter weight fabric. If you are reupholstering several stools, you may want to use the same fabric for each one or choose a different fabric for each stool. The project will take about an hour and a half to complete, depending on how many one-ring bar stools you reupholster.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the stool upside down to remove the existing fabric. Use the flat head screwdriver to pry up the staples holding the fabric in place.

    • 2

Use the old upholstery you removed from the stool to measure the fabric. Lay the old upholstery flat over the fabric and cut the fabric so that it is the same size and shape as the old upholstery.

    • 3

Remove the old foam padding from the stool. Use this to measure the amount of furniture foam you need. Place the old foam padding over the piece of furniture foam to get the correct size.

    • 4

Glue the furniture foam to the top of the stool. The glue should dry for at least one hour before you attach the fabric.

    • 5

Lay the fabric upside down on the floor, a table, or another flat surface. Place the stool’s foam padding over the fabric. Use the staple gun to staple the fabric in place.
