How to Make a Cashmere Throw From Old Sweaters

Making a cashmere throw from old sweater is a moderately easy project. You can find second-hand cashmere sweaters at thrift stores, yard sales and other garage sales. Rummage through your closet for your own, older sweaters and ask family and friends if they have any cashmere sweaters that have seen better days. You can cut out the best parts of the sweater for your quilt.

Instructions

Use high-quality scissors to cut squares from the cashmere sweaters. You can also measure in strips versus squares, depending on your taste. For an even look, measure each piece so they are all of the same dimensions; for an uneven look, measure each piece, and have an assortment of pieces of different sizes.

Merge the strips or pieces of fabric together using a sewing machine. Create a pattern that suits your taste -- it can resemble a traditional quilt or can be a striped blanket.

    • 3

Sew the quilt onto a blanket if you want the added warmth and durability; however, this item can also stand on its own as a quilt without being sewed on to a blanket frame.

Hem the ends of the guilt to give it a consistent look. You can also add a ribbon to the hemmed ending for a polished finish; the ribbon should appear as the border of the quilt.
