How to Make Toadstool Stools

A child’s stool made to resemble a toadstool can be made from a used stool or an undecorated simple stool. A toadstool is another name for a mushroom, usually referring to a poisonous variety of mushroom. Toadstool crafts are often associated with fairy mythology, with a toadstool stool often made as a decorative stool for children to play with. Instructions

    • 1

Turn the stool upside down and measure the diameter of the seat. Roll out the red wool felt fabric on a hard surface, adding around 12 inches to the measurement of the seat diameter. Cut out the measured red wool felt.

    • 2

Cut out three circles from white wool felt that will fit on the red wool felt on the surface of the stool. Thread a sewing needle with white thread and sew the three white spots onto the red wool felt.

    • 3

Lay the red wool felt on a hard surface and neatly fold over the felt on one side of the stool. Using the staple gun and staples attach the folded piece of red wool felt to the stool close to the legs of the stool. Turn the stool so it is standing on its legs.

    • 4

Push batting into the gap between the stool seat and the red wool felt. Pull the red wool felt over the seat and fold underneath, stapling on the underside of the seat opposite the first staples. Push in more batting and staple the red wool felt on the underside until the felt is attached the whole way around the underside of the seat.

Apply paint to the stool legs using a brush. Allow to dry before using the stool.
