Durable

• Vinyl's smooth surface easily releases spills. A quick wipe with a cloth makes vinyl clean again. You should wash it with mild detergent and water, using a soft bristle brush for stubborn soil. Upholstery vinyl's cleanable nature makes the fabric an obvious choice for food service industries.

Customizable

• Vinyl fabric manufacturers have many ways to customize vinyl for environmental and industry-specific applications. According to the Chemical Fabrics and Film Association, Inc., "A vinyl film used as part of a marine upholstery could contain a half dozen additives to give the film the desired flexibility, color and processing stability." Other ways to customize vinyl include adding UV and fire-resistant substances.

Fire Resistant

• Fire resistance is another of upholstery vinyl's qualities. Vinyl fabric's fire resistance comes from its component chlorine. Vinyl does not catch fire quickly and, if it does ignite, burns slowly. Upholstery vinyl manufacturers must adhere to fire retardant regulations when making vinyl.
