Antiquing Light Wood

Purchasing antique furniture in a store can be quite expensive, but you can save money by refinishing your existing furniture with a faux antique finish. There is a do-it-yourself antique method that can be completed using just a few store-bought items. This technique is simple to complete and will give your furniture an expensive look without costing you a fortune.

Things You'll Need

  • 100 grit sandpaper
  • Clean lint-free cloth
  • 2 damp rags
  • Paint brush
  • Wood stain
  • Clear acrylic sealer

Instructions

      Lightly sand the surface of the wood using 100 grit sandpaper. Apply enough pressure to scratch or make distress marks on random spots of the wood surface.

      Clean and remove any dirt and sawdust from the wood with the lint-free cloth.

      Dip a damp rag into a container of wood stain.

      Apply the wood stain onto the wood using the rag.

      Remove excess wood stain from the wooden item using a second damp rag.

      Allow the wood stain to dry for at least an hour.

      Apply a clear acrylic sealer to the wood with a paintbrush.

      Allow the sealer to dry overnight.
