How to Use a Mirror as a Headboard

How to Use a Mirror as a Headboard. Perhaps your bedroom is missing a certain je ne sais quoi, and you wish to revive it. One cool and inexpensive idea is to use a mirror as a headboard.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the space behind your bed where you wish to install the headboard, and look around carefully at the rest of the room's furnishings. You want to make sure you create something that will fit in with the rest of the room's décor, rather than creating something new around which you must redo your room (unless that's your intention).

    • 2

Decide what kind of mirror you would like to use for the headboard of your bed. Various styles are available, such as ones with elaborate, gilded frames, silver frames, ones with various shapes such as ovals or circles, such as the one in Van Eyck's "Arnolfini Marriage."

    • 3

Go in the opposite direction, and choose a mirror that is absolutely plain, and use it as a template to create something yourself. You can etch a design into the mirror, such as the initials of yourself and your loved one; you can paint the edges; or you can frame the mirror yourself.

    • 4

Pick lots of little mirrors and mount them in whatever configuration you choose on a piece of finished wood. The wood doesn't have to be extensive-just a sheet of plywood cut to the size you wish will make a fine backer for your mirrors. Or, you could even cover the plywood with cloth, then glue the mirrors on top of the cloth.

Hang the mirror in place so that it becomes the headboard of your choice. You may find that the mirror creates more light in your room and gives the illusion of more space.
