How to Glue Plastic to Wood

It is good to know how to glue wood to plastic if you are making a repair involving the two. For example, making mixed-media furniture or art is much easier when you use the right adhesive. To bond plastic to wood, use a two-part epoxy adhesive. It is sold in a dual-tube package that allows you to precisely mix the adhesive's components.

Things You'll Need

  • 120-grit sandpaper
  • Two-party epoxy adhesive
  • Rubber gloves
  • Painters mask
  • Clamps (depending on project)

Instructions

    • 1

Lightly sand the areas of the plastic and wood that you will be gluing together. Plastic grabs onto the glue easier if it is sanded at the point where you are going to put the glue.

    • 2

Wipe the materials clean of any dirt, dust and grease with a clean rag.

    • 3

Squeeze equal amounts of the two parts of the epoxy onto a disposable plastic dish or piece of cardboard. Mix the two parts together with a coffee stirrer or other disposable tool.

    • 4

Apply the mixed adhesive to the plastic and wood you want glue. If necessary, use a clamp to hold the parts together.

    • 5

Immediately wipe away any excess adhesive. Two-part expoxy sets very quickly and is difficult to remove after it hardens.
