Ideas for Canopy Beds

Canopy beds have been around for a long time. Originally, canopy beds kept the cold out and body heat in while someone was sleeping. Now people buy canopy beds because they are beautiful and stylish. The actual covering of a canopy bed can fit in with the décor of any bedroom. Find the perfect canopy for your bed using some of these ideas.
  1. For a Girl

    • The typical canopy for a little girl’s room uses ruffles and lace. Buy or make a canopy in all different colors using lace and ruffles that hang down several inches from the edge of the canopy. Use light colors and airy fabrics to make a little girl feel like a princess.

Screw an eye hook into the ceiling above the middle of the bed. Make a fabric canopy that is a little bit bigger than the actual canopy part than is normal. Attach a plastic o-ring to the middle of the canopy on the top of the bed. Hang the o-ring on the eye hook to create a castle.

    For a Boy

    • Make a tent-like cover for the little boy’s canopy bed. Use lightweight fabric such as nylon or even a mesh fabric that resembles a jungle tent. Sew up three sides of the tent. Install a zipper on the fourth side for an opening. You can also use tiebacks for an even easier opening in the front of the tent.

    For Adults

    • Choose a fabric pattern that is appropriate for the décor of the room. For a couple’s bedroom, choose solid-colored fabric or stripes. Use just a strip of fabric and attach it at the four posts of the bed using thumbtacks. Make sure it is taut to prevent sagging in the middle.

Use something else besides fabric. Buy and use bamboo shades as the canopy for the bed for a tropical look.

Make elegant drapes. Buy four o-rings and attach one at each of the four posts. Measure up and around one of the long sides of the bed. Cut two different pieces of fabric to that length. Measure up and around the short sides of the bed. Cut two more pieces of fabric to that length. Hem all around the edges of all four pieces. Feed them through the o-rings and allow the fabric to hang freely.

Cover the bed completely. Attach shower curtain rods all the way around the posts of the bed. Make and hang curtains that hang from the top of the bed to the floor.
