Tips on Making Deer Chandeliers

Deer chandeliers are a popular type of lighting fixture decor in outdoor lodges, ranch houses or places with an outdoorsy interior theme. These chandeliers are made with deer antlers that are collected from deer which have died, been killed or have shed their antlers at the end of the rut each year.
  1. Gather Antlers

    • Gather antlers by going to special farms where deer are allowed to graze freely in open fields around the time of the year they shed their antlers, or search the woods where there are large populations of male deer around the time they shed their antlers. Antlers can also be bought from hunting and outdoors stores. Depending on the size of your deer antler chandelier, you will want to purchase enough deer antlers to make a circular pattern with the antlers themselves and totally fill out the chandelier's shape.

    Positioning Deer Antlers

    • Determine how you want to position the antlers. One is a circular pattern, in which the horns face outward and the main trunk of each antler touch the middle. The trunks of these antlers can be held together with strong metal screws or attached to a metal ring, which holds each ring of antlers together. The points of the antlers can also be arranged in an interlocking pattern and attached together with small metal screws in various parts where the points of the antlers touch or intertwine. To make a larger and more intricate deer antler chandelier, stack each ring of antlers on top of each other.

    Install Lighting

    • Run electricity through the arranged antlers and attach light fixtures. Screw-in light fixtures can be attached to the outer edges of the deer antler chandelier, with electrical lines run through the middle up to where the antler chandelier hangs from the ceiling. You can even weave Christmas lights through the deer antler chandelier, creating a unique type of lighting in the center of the room. The type of lighting ultimately depends on how much the chandelier needs to light and how the antlers are arranged, allowing light fixtures to be installed in those places.
