How to Make a Homemade Sewing Table

Determine the width, length and height of the sewing table. This will influenced by the space you can spare in your home or apartment.

Purchase pretreated lumber from a home improvement store. Pretreated lumber has a smooth finish and saves you time from having to sand and coat the wood. This type of lumber also comes in pre-cut pieces. If you can't find pre-cut pieces for your measurements, have a larger piece cut to size. For the legs, you will need four pieces cut to the width of your table top and four pieces cut to the height of your table. Going forward, the width pieces will be referred as "A" and the length pieces as "B."

Make the legs. The legs of your sewing table will resemble an open rectangle. Each leg unit will have two "A" pieces and two "B" pieces. Stand both "B" pieces up and rest piece "A" to the top. Glue and nail in place. Turn the entire piece upside down and rest the other "A" piece on the what was the bottom side and glue and nail in place. You've completed your first leg. Repeat,making the other leg in the same way. These are the support foundation for your table top.

Prepare your table top. Your sewing table top can triple as a sewing, cutting and ironing table. Cut a piece of batting and a piece of muslin the width and the length of your table and add 2-inches for all sides. Lay the fabric right side down on the floor and lay the batting on top. Place the table top right side down on top of both pieces of fabric. Staple the fabric pieces to the table top. Neatly gather the fabric pieces and pull tautly before securing in place with a staple gun. Leave table top in this position for the next step.

Attach the legs to the table. Turn the legs top side down onto the sewing table top. Line up the width of the table to the width of the leg at each end. Using a screw that's not too long to penetrate through your table, drill screw down through the leg and into the table top. Two screws on each end of each leg is sufficient. Turn your homemade sewing table upright.
