How to Make Piano Bench Covers

Create a fabric cover for you piano bench to make it look brand new or cover a used bench to refresh it. Look for inexpensive piano benches at flea markets, yard sales and secondhand or thrift shops. A little fabric and foam will give your piano player a very comfortable seat as well as giving you a nice-looking piece of furniture next to the piano.

Instructions

    • 1

Unscrew the hinges to remove the top of the seat from the bench. Mark the underside of the bench where the hinges were. Place the hinges and screws in a plastic zipper bag.

    • 2

Buy a piece of 2-inch foam the length and width of the bench.

    • 3

Spray adhesive directly on top of the bench. Quickly position the foam piece on the bench. Give the adhesive a few minutes to dry.

    • 4

Cut a piece of fabric 6 inches larger than the top of the piano bench all the way around. Lay out the fabric on a flat work surface with the right side down.

    • 5

Center the bench top, foam facing down, on top of the fabric.

    • 6

Pull up the fabric in the middle of one side and staple it to the underside of the piano bench top. Do the same thing on the opposite side. Repeat with the other two sides.

    • 7

Working from the centers to the corners, pull the fabric tightly and staple it. Staple about an inch from the edge.

    • 8

Fold the corners of the fabric neatly when you get to the corners of the bench seat. Trim off any excess.

    • 9

Replace the hinges to the seat of the bench. Attach the hinges to the bench.
