How to Make a Jewelry Armoires Kit

A jewelry armoire is a must-have for those with a growing collection jewelry that needs appropriate housing. While purchasing a jewelry armoire is often the preferred choice for jewelry owners, creating your own allows you to customize a unit that suits your needs better. Instructions

Figure how large you would like your jewelry armoire to be. The average jewelry armoire is 42 inches tall and 19 inches wide. However, you can choose to make your armoire as large as you like. Once you have decided on your measurements, write them down. Also consider how thick you want the armoire wood to be. A good thickness for all of the wooden boards is a quarter of an inch. Go to your local hardware store to pick up the needed supplies for this project. You will need two pieces of wood for the sides, a piece of wood for the back of the armoire, two pieces of wood for the bottom and top and a piece of wood cut vertically for the doors.

Purchase all the needed supplies for the kit. Once you have done this, place all of the items into a large gift box or bag to present to whomever you are giving the kit to. Print out Steps 3 through 6 and include them with the jewelry-armoire kit. This will allow the gift recipient to put the kit together with ease.

Lay the back wooden board down flat. Using one of the side pieces of wood, carefully hammer the small nails along the two pieces to create an L shape. Attach the other side piece the same way. Next, carefully nail the top and bottom pieces to the armoire to create a box shape.

Attach the doors to the box by attaching two hinges to each door and then attaching the hinges to the armoire. Close and open the doors to make sure that there isn’t a gap or an overlap.

Attach one of the door pulls to each of the jewelry-armoire doors wherever you like. Open the armoire and carefully attach two small shelf brackets on each side, at the same height. Measure the inside of the unit and cut a piece of wood that will fit into the armoire as a shelf. Cut a piece of velvet fabric to fit your shelf and glue it on the shelf. Allow this to dry thoroughly before laying it on top of the brackets. Repeat this process if you would like to add multiple shelves to your unit.

Install the hooks inside the top of your armoire as a place to hang necklaces. Smooth any rough patches of your jewelry armoire with sandpaper, to ensure that it does not splinter. Place your new jewelry holder in your desired location and begin filling it with jewelry.
