How to Paint Wicker With a Glaze

Wicker is used for a variety of items, most commonly on furniture. Some of the wicker pieces that are painted may begin to show age and wear over time. Re-painting the wicker can give new life to an old piece. Although it may seem difficult to paint wicker because of the weaving of the materials. It isn’t as difficult as it may seem. Applying a glaze to the wicker is much like painting it with a simple coat of plain paint.

Things You'll Need

  • Garden hose
  • Hard bristle brush
  • White primer paint
  • Latex satin sheen paint
  • Paint brush
  • Towel

Instructions

      Clean the wicker by hosing it down with a garden hose. Remove any loose paint with a hard-bristled brush.

      Apply two coats of white primer paint, using a spray can. Ensure that every crack is covered completely.

      Dilute latex satin sheen paint with a glazing liquid and water. Follow specific manufacturer instructions.

      Paint the wicker with the satin glaze mixture using a paint brush. Dab the bristles into the cracks to ensure that every inch of the wicker is covered completely.

      Remove excess paint with a clean towel.

      Brush the entire surface of the wicker with a dry brush to work the paint into the wicker.
