How to Build Wood Doll Furniture

Dollhouses are a staple in a young child's life. Whether it is a large wooden dollhouse or one they created using shoe boxes and tape, every little girl has a house for her dolls. Wood furniture built for the wooden dollhouse is a project that takes time. All pieces are built basically the same way. A kitchen table and a coffee table have the same pattern. Just as a dresser and TV cabinet have the same pattern. The amount of furniture made depends on the builder.

Instructions

  1. Tables

    • 1
The under-base makes the table sturdy.

Create a pattern by drawing a rectangle 3 inches by 2 inches. Draw two sets of thin rectangles, one set the length of the table and one set the width and both sets a quarter inch wide. These are the under-base of the table. Draw four rectangles 2 inches long and a quarter inch wide; these are the legs.

    • 2

Trace the patterns onto the plywood.

    • 3

Cut these shapes out with the saw. Use the Dremel tool to smooth the edges and sand for extra care.

    • 4

Glue the under-base to the bottom edges of the table and glue the legs into the inside corners of this base. Allow to set for 24 hours.

    • 5
A round table is made the same way.

Decorate as desired and adjust pattern size for other house tables, such as coffee table and end tables.

    Chairs

    • 6
Wooden chairs are easy to make with different designs.

Create a pattern by drawing a square 1 inch by 1 inch with a 1/4-inch notch on each of the ends of one side. Draw four thin rectangles, each 1 inch long and a quarter inch wide. These are the under-base of the chair. Draw four rectangles 1 1/2 inches long and a quarter inch wide, these are the legs. Draw one rectangle 2 inches long and 1 inch wide with a 1/2-inch notch in the middle of one 1-inch end.

    • 7

Trace the patterns onto the plywood. Repeat for as many chairs as desired.

    • 8

Cut these shapes out with a saw. Use the Dremel tool to smooth the edges and sand for extra care.

    • 9

Glue the under-base to the chair seat, the 1-by-1 inch piece. Glue the legs to the inside edges of the under-base and glue the back rectangle on by fitting it in the notches. Allow it to set for 24 hours. Repeat for all chairs.

A rocking chair is made with bowed wood attached to the legs.

Decorate as desired and adjust pattern size for other house chairs such as desk chairs and living room seats.
