Directions for Making a Hanging Chair

Hanging chairs are a wonderful way to relax after a long day, or to just sit back and pick up a good book. What better way to experience this relaxation than in a chair that you've created yourself.
  1. Materials

    • The materials you need are nine two-by-fours, a power drill, two chains, two wood screw hooks, and 12 6-inch wood screws. You'll also want to purchase the swing chair with hook attachments on the arms and back and the finish you want on your wood. Lastly, purchase an outdoor chair cushion that fits your style.

    Preparation

    • Finish your two-by-fours with your selected stain. Construct two large triangles that are at least 6 feet tall out of your two-by-fours and wood screws. Connect the two triangles with two wood screws at the two corners of the base, as well as at the very top corner of each.

    Finishing Touches

    • Screw your hooks into the bottom top crossbar. Keep these hooks centered and the same distance apart as your chair is wide. Connect the chains to your swing seat and attach the center of the chain to the hooks above. Finally, tie your cushion to your chair.
