A 75-square-foot plot for vegetables gives you room for a modest garden. Square footage is calculated by multiplying the length of the plot by the width. So 75 square feet fits within a plot that is 10 feet long and 7 1/2 feet wide. You can set the length and width to any distance that, when multiplied, gives 75. For example, to make a square garden plot you would merely take the square root of 75 feet (8 feet 8 inches) and make each of the four sides that precise length.

1
Measure the desired length of your garden plot, for example, 9 feet.
-
2
Drive a wooden stake into the ground at the starting point for your measurement and at the 9-foot mark.
-
-
3
Divide 75 by the length of your plot, which is 9 in this example. The result is 8 feet 4 inches.

Measure 8 feet 4 inches deep from the two points on your length measurement and place a wooden stake in the ground at each new point. You now have a rectangular garden plot measuring 9 feet long by 8 feet 4 inches wide, or 75 square feet.
