How to Grow Carrots in a Bucket

If you do not have sufficient space for a vegetable garden or if you do not own your own property, you might think that it is not possible to grow carrots. However, this is a type of vegetable that can be grown in a container garden. A special container is not necessary --an ordinary bucket will do just fine.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a bucket that is at least 12 inches deep and a little over 1 foot across. The bucket should have a few holes in the bottom to allow for water drainage.

    • 2

Add peat mixed with just a little vermiculite for moisture retention to your bucket. Fill the bucket to within about 6 inches of the top.

    • 3

Add a fertilizer with a 1-2-2 ratio before you plant the carrots.

    • 4

Use your finger or a stick to create holes for the seeds, making each hole abut 1/2 inch deep. Place the carrot seeds in the holes. Cover the carrots with soil , then water thoroughly to completely wet the soil.

    • 5

Keep your carrots at a temperature between 60 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit to help them grow.

    • 6

Remove some carrot plants once they grow to about 1 inch tall. Each carrot plant should be no closer than ½ inch from any other plant.

    • 7

      Water your carrot plants often.

    • 8

Add more fertilizer when the carrot plants are around 4 inches tall.
