Instructions to Bottle Legumes

Bottling or canning vegetables and legumes is a common process performed by gardeners at the end of their harvest. After all the work put in the garden, many gardeners want to preserve their produce for the cold winter season to yield year-round quality legumes. There are various methods for bottling and canning legumes, including the oven approach, an effective process that is relatively simple. Take 24 hours to keep your legumes fresh for months.

    • 2

Preheat your oven to approximately 300 degrees.

    • 3

Place the lids on the Mason jars without the bands or clips. Position the bottles on a baking sheet.

    • 4

Heat the Mason jars filled with legumes by placing them in the preheated oven on the baking sheet. Allow the jars to remain in the oven for 30 to 50 minutes.

    • 5

Remove the jars from the oven and let them sit for approximately 24 hours.

    • 6

Fit the band portion or clip of the lids on the jars and tighten the lids for an airtight seal.

Add labels to the jars with the name of the contents as well as the bottling date. Place them in a cool, dark, dry area for storage.
