How to Wash Apples

According to the Environmental Working Group, apples contain the second-highest level of pesticide residue out of all fresh produce. Farmers use pesticides to protect apples from fruit flies, brown spotting, and diseases. There are a variety of apples available to consumers throughout the year, ranging from Cortland baking apples to Rome Beauties. Apple lovers should select firm, well-colored fruit. Following a quick acidic wash, the apples can be refrigerated or frozen for up to three months.
