How to Harvest Sweet Success Cucumbers

Cucumbers for the home garden come in many varieties and are grown in containers as well as in garden plots. The Sweet Success variety is known as a burpless cucumber with relatively small or no seeds. As with any other cucumber variety, Sweet Success cucumbers should be harvested regularly. Continual harvesting throughout the season helps to ensure production throughout the growing season.

Instructions

    • 1

Pick Sweet Success cucumbers under 6 inches long for pickling. Hold the cucumber in one hand, and clip off the vine where it meets the end of the cucumber with a sharp knife.

    • 2

Harvest full grown cucumbers before they become longer than 12 inches. Hold the cucumber in one hand and pinch off the vine from the cucumber with your free hand.

    • 3

Lift up leaves to find hidden cucumbers. Cucumbers grow in shady areas and blend in with the surrounding leaves. Remove cucumbers that are over sized and dispose of them if they have soft skins. If you find young cucumbers that are not quite ready to pick, insert a stick into the ground near the cucumber. This helps you find it quickly within a few days.

    • 4

Walk carefully around the Sweet Success cucumber plants, avoiding stepping on leaves or vines. Crushing vines under foot results in poor production.

    • 5

Pick cucumbers daily during the season. Picking daily promotes more production.
