How to Install a Topsy-Turvy

Topsy Turvy is a brand planter that grows plants in a bag that hangs upside down. The bag is designed to allow you to plant the plants from a bottom hole on basic models, and from bottom, side and top holes on other models. Topsy Turvy planters are planted, filled with potting soil and hung on a plant hanger or hook. These space saving planters will allow you to grow vegetables on a porch, terrace or other small space.

Instructions

    • 1

Spread out the planter bag so that it is completely open and free of wrinkles and creases. Reach down in and remove the split sponge from the inside bottom of the bag.

    • 2

Remove the tomato plant from its seedling pot. Loosen the root system by massaging it gently with your hands. Pinch off all of the lower branches on the stem of the plant. Slide the root system through the hole in the bottom of the bag from the outside. Push the stem up deep into the bag so that just the top leaves are on the outside of the bag.

    • 3

Reach inside the bag and slide the split sponge over the stem where it enters the bag. Slide the sponge down to the base of the bag and lock it into the collar at the bottom of the opening. This holds the plant in place.

    • 4

Mix potting soil and tomato fertilizer together with a trowel. Fill the planting bag with the potting soil mix.

    • 5

Hang the wire hanging hook at the top of the bag over a plant hanger or hook on your porch or in your yard.

    • 6

Place the lid on the inside of the hanging wires and slide it down over the top outside edge of the planter bag. Make sure that the slits for the hanging wires are aligned with the wires as you lock it into place.

    • 7

Water the planter slowly with a watering can for 10 to 15 minutes. The water will pour out the bottom of the planter. It is important to water for this amount of time to ensure the potting mix absorbs the water.
