Which Types of Grow Systems Give the Biggest Yields?

Serious gardeners may want to consider alternatives to outdoor soil gardens to maximize yield. Depending on what you are growing, different systems may suit different plants, herbs or vegetables. For example, sunflowers may not be practical for an indoor grow operation. Still, when yield is concerned, a hydroponic grow table is by far the best solution.
  1. Hydroponic Table

    • A hydroponic table is the best system for producing high yields. A hydroponic system allows the roots of the plant to soak in a nutrient-rich stream of oxygenated water. The grower can control the precise amount of nutrients, pH and temperature. This results in near instant absorption of nutrients. The plant constantly receives the best food possible, with the amounts altered for different stages of the grow. This tailored gardening maximizes the yield far beyond what a soil solution can achieve.

    Lighting

    • Lighting is also extremely important. The amount of light at different stages of the grow cycle, and the type of light used, both matter. HPS or High Pressure Sodium, Metal Halide and LED grow lights are best suited for high yield. Florescent lighting actually weakens the yield. Advances in LED grow light technology indicate that LED is fast becoming the superior option, not only for yield. LED lights consume very little power and emit almost no heat.

    Temperature, Humidity and Ventilation

    • The ventilation, humidity and temperature of the grow room all play important roles in determining yield. Different plants like different temperature and humidity levels. A well-ventilated room gives the plants clean air.

    Genetics

    • Perhaps the most important grow system for producing high yields is genetics. Using cuttings from the best plants ensures that the yields are their highest. Any sophisticated grow operation also has a system in place constantly working to cultivate the best seeds and cuttings. It is an integral part of any successful grow system.
