Instructions

    • 1

Poke the tip of a knife through the bottom of the plastic container in about eight spots to make holes.

    • 2

Place a bag of potting soil in a sink and fill it with water until the water starts to seep out of the bottom.

    • 3

Scoop the potting soil into the plastic container and fill it about 3/4 full.

    • 4

Spread a pinch of lettuce seeds evenly across the soil in the container and lightly cover them with soil.

    • 5

Spray a light mist of water over the top of the soil. Use a spray bottle or the kitchen sprayer turned on low.

    • 6

Place the top on the container and put it in a sunny, south-facing window. Do not remove the lid during the germination period. The lid should seal in enough moisture that it's unnecessary to water the seeds.

    • 7

Remove the lid when the seeds start to germinate, about five days later, and place the lid underneath the container so it catches any excess water.

    • 8

Water the plants every day, after germination, to keep the soil moist.
