Sweet onions, such as Vidalia and Walla Walla varieties, feature a milder taste than other types of onions since they have a lower sulfur and a higher water content. The mild-tasting onions will make a versatile addition to your vegetable garden, as you can use them to flavor a variety of recipes. Incorporate the sweet onions into soups, stews and sauces, among other dishes. Plant the onion bulbs in the spring after tilling your vegetable garden.
