Can Radishes Be Grown in Different Climates?

The peppery taste of radishes adds natural flavor to a variety of foods and dishes. They can be sliced and eaten raw or used as an ingredient. Growing your own allows you to have fresh radishes all year long. A versatile vegetable, radishes can be grown in any climate -- as long as they are provided with at least 6 hours of sunlight each day.

Instructions

    • 1

Plant small crops of radishes at a time. Radishes take only about 20 to 25 days to grow, so smaller crops planted about once a month will allow you to regularly have fresh radishes at your fingertips.

    • 2

Plant the radish seeds only about 1/4 inch deep in the soil. Space the seeds 1/2 inch apart from each other, and leave a 6-inch space between rows.

    • 3

Water the radishes so that they are kept moist but not soggy. Adjust the amount of water as needed during heat waves, to prevent the soil from drying out.

    • 4

Give the radish plants a dose of liquid fertilizer once a week. Follow the dosing directions on the specific type of fertilizer you are using.

    • 5

Make sure your radish plants get at least 6 hours of sunlight per day. Shift the location for your next crop of radishes, if they get too much shade.

    • 6

Grow radishes in garden boxes indoors during rainy seasons. Use artificial growing lights in place of sunlight. The same planting and growing methods used for outdoor radish gardens can be applied to indoor radish plants.
